Summer at the Bothell UW Campus: 3 Lessons Worth Carrying Forward

Summer at the Bothell UW Campus was a good reminder that growth doesn't happen all at once.

It happens one hold at a time.

Watching our boys climb, reach, pause, adjust, and keep going brought a few simple lessons back into focus. The kind of lessons we want them to carry with them. The kind we try to carry into our work every day.

Here are the three that stood out most: show up, try hard things, and support the people beside you.

Lesson 1: Show Up

The first step is usually the hardest.

Before the climb, there's that little moment of doubt. Is this too high? What if I slip? What if I can't do it?

But growth starts when you step up anyway.

That's true for our boys, and it's true in the work we do at Arclight. Showing up matters. Showing up prepared matters even more. Whether we're walking into a home for an estimate, protecting a room before painting, or doing the final walkthrough, the goal is the same: be present, be steady, and do the work with care.

Lesson 2: Try Hard Things

Some routes are easy. Some take more effort.

You reach for a hold, miss it, reset your feet, and try again. That's where confidence grows. Not from doing everything perfectly, but from learning that hard things can be figured out.

We see the same thing in painting.

The best results usually come from the parts people don't always see. Sanding. Patching. Caulking. Priming. Protecting floors and furniture. Choosing the right product for the surface. Taking the time to do the prep right.
